“Great Authorial Expectations and Intentions: Editing Early 20th-Century Literature for 21st-Century Readers” by Alisha Knight, professor of English and American Studies and associate provost for Diversity and Inclusion at Washington College
Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coley Rice Lounge
A scholar who publishes on African-American literature and print culture, Professor Knight’s lecture will focus on the short story “Talma Gordon” by Pauline Hopkins. Knight will explore the text from a publishing/book culture perspective, looking at the challenges of preparing a scholarly edition of the 19th-century story of passing, murder, and pirates, which originally appeared in The Colored American Magazine.
